Lucky owners of this new 2009 Challenger SRT8, priced at $35,000+, probably have enough disposable income to pay for the high priced gas. Just as in the 1970s when the car companies were releasing gas guzzling muscle cars during the OPEC oil crisis, we're seeing a similar pattern here where near in our horizon could be another major oil shock. But it's not a bad investment. If the fortunate 30-something year old owners of these new 21st century muscle cars hold on to their V8 rides long enough, let's say, about another 30 years, they can unload these rare gas powered collectibles at the auction house and have enough to retire on. It seems the press is already burying them in the sand before the rubber hits the road. Lately there's been a media buzz about the death of muscle cars, V8 pick up trucks and SUVs... and that the general public will have to start driving 4 cylinder gas electric hybrids. ACK! Sadly, the American CAFE cars tend to be kind of fugly and boring.
Just recently a high school senior came up with a new alternative fuel engine that gas, methanol, propane and hydrogen. If there's a will, there's a way...
